Create a Group
Updated
Before you begin
You must be signed in. A new personal group starts with you as its only member and group admin. Add members after creation.
iPhone, iPad, and Android
- Open Messages.
- Open the top-right menu.
- Select New Group.
- On Add Group, enter Group subject.
- Select Create.
Alternative path: Settings → Account → MANAGE → Add Group.
macOS and Windows
- Open Messages.
- Open the conversation-list menu and select New Group.
- On Add Group, enter Group subject.
- Select Create.
You can also use Settings → Account → MANAGE → Add Group.
Web
- Open the Messages/Chats creation menu.
- Select New Group.
- In New group, enter Group subject (optional).
- Select Create.
Expected result
MYOPL creates the group, makes you its admin, and opens the empty conversation. If Group subject is blank, the name becomes New Group.
Finish setting up the group
After creation:
- Open the group header to display Group Info.
- Use the pencil on the avatar to upload the group photo.
- Edit the name or About section if needed.
- Open Group settings in installed apps or Group permissions on the web.
- Verify every member permission and the Auto-Moderation level.
- Add friends or share the invite link.
Current limitation
The creation form may show a photo control and permission switches, but those selections may not be retained in the created group. Always upload the photo and verify permissions from Group Info after creation.
If creation fails
- Confirm the device is online and select Create again only once.
- If the group opens with the wrong photo or permission, use the post-creation steps above.
- If a duplicate empty group was created after retrying, open the unwanted conversation and use Delete chat or leave it as appropriate.
